These little books (Redwood Region Flower Finder and Sierra Flower Finder) identify an amazing number of the commonest wildflowers by sensibly keying first to families. Much description is conveyed by excellent line drawings of the specific plant; blooming months are listed and a habitat symbol is included. Requiring as they do no previous botanical knowledge on the part of the user, these little books are particularly useful with beginners in plant identification. For concise, graphic, and portable information on the native flora these nifty little hand-sized booklets are hard to beat--the silicon chips of botanical keys.
