Review
Choice : From review by A. J. Trussell, Kansas State University
In only 397 pages, DMS includes more than 11,000 terms drawn from McGraw-Hill's Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms (6th ed, CH, Mar '03) and their Encyclopedia of Science & Technology (9th ed., CH, Sept. '02), creating an up-to-date dictionary that includes numerous terms from new and emerging fields.
Besides traditional fields relevant to materials engineering, it includes terms from biomaterials, cryogenics, crystallogrpahy, graphic arts, and polymer chemistry. The straightforward layout presents information simply but effectively. Each entry includes the headword, primary field, pronunciation, and where appropriate, secondary fields, synonyms, acronyms, and abbreviations. Appendixes provide useful conversion tables and informational charts. ... Substantially expanded content areas justify purchase of the book. Summing up: Recommended.
