About the Author
James L. McClelland is Bingham Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at Carnegie Mellon University and Codirector of the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition at Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. He is the author, with David E. Rumelhart and the PDP Research Group, of Parallel Distributed Processing: Explorations in the Microstructure of Cognition (MIT Press, 1986). Awarded the 2002 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Psychology along with James McClelland for their work in the field of cognitive neuroscience on a cognitive framework called parallel distributed processing and the concept of connectionism. The award is accompanied by a $200,000 cash prize.
