Science and Children, April 1997
The Scientist Within You, Vol.1, is an instructor's manual with reproducible parts. There are 24 "Discovery" sections, each (except the introductory section) containing a biography of a woman scientist, engineer, or mathematician, instructor's notes, a sketch of the woman scientist at work, a student worksheet, and "The scientific Gazette," a summary and extension sheet for students.
The women include famous (Marie Curie, Barbara McClintock) and lesser known women (Emmy Noether, Winifred Goldring). Different times and cultures are represented, including present-day contributors.
A detailed suggestion for a wrap-up celebration and a "Certificate of Achievement" follow the set of regular sections. There are also ideas for further programs, ways to obtain funding for programs, and descriptions of organizations with goals and literature that supplement this program.
