About the Author
Hal H. harrison, a retired newspaperman and lecturer, was the outdoor editor of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE for thirteen years, and for more than twenty years he lectured on outdoor adventures using his own color motion pictures. Mr. Harrison's stories and photographs have appeared in hundreds of magazines, newspapers, and books. He is the former president of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania and the Brooks Bird Club of West Virginia and is a member of the American Ornithologists' Union and the Wilson Ornithological Society. Roger Tory Peterson, one of the world&quot's greatest naturalists, received every major award for ornithology, natural science, and conservation, as well as numerous honorary degrees, medals, and citations, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Peterson Identification System has been called the greatest invention since binoculars, and the Peterson Field Guides® are credited with helping to set the stage for the environmental movement. Mada Harrison is an excellent field ornithologist, botanist, and conchologist, as well as an artist and the author of a book on landscaping.
