Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
Alabama is blessed with a tremendous wealth of natural resources that spans aquatic and terrestrial habitats from the Gulf beaches to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.  This great physical diversity produces numerous habitat types and the abundant wildlife species they support.  Yet many animal populations in the state are struggling against serious threats, such as habitat loss, environmental contaminants, disease, invasive species, and overcollecting.

This volume builds on Volume I of the four-volume set by providing a closer focus on individual species of threatened amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.  Each entry presents the species' common and scientific names, a detailed morphological description, full-color identification photographs and distribution maps, habitats used, life history and ecological information, and the basis for  each species' level of conservation concern.  It is, in one volume, a "report card" on the health of wild populations of terrestrial and selected aquatic species and a comprehensive field guide to their identification.
