Wielgolaski's book comes at a particularly good time as we move from regional to circumpolar and global perspectives of tundra environments. The wide geographic scope, the generally excellent chapters, extensive bibliographies, and superb indices (taxonomic, author, and general subject indices) make this the closes thing to a tundra encyclopedia that we have.
