Book Description
A collection of vignettes about people and the work they did in the US Forest Service in the 1940s. The locale is the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana and Idaho. It brings back to life some of the salty old characters and the high school students who were the replacements for the CCC boys, then off to war.
About the Author
Mr. Coffman was a sixteen year old high schooler from Lafayette, Indiana who went west to work in the U. S. Forest Service in 1944. After two years in the U. S. Navy he returned to the Forests during the summers of 1948, 1949 and 1950 to earn money for his college education.
He received his bachelor's degree from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa in 1953.
His business career included twenty years in sales and marketing in the Farm Equipment Industry. In 1977 he and his wife purchased a small Art & Picure Framing Business in Sun City, Arizona. They sold the business in 1997 and retired. Writing and other hobbies now consume his time.
