The often unrecognized associations between environmental and human rights issues are presented in this study. Of relevance to environmentalists and scholars in related fields within and outside of South Africa, the book diverges from the positions currently adopted by African governments and development agencies that typically take a technical and managerial approach to environmental issues. Topics discussed include environmental racism and the rise of environmental justice and the legal and political responses to these issues, along with the health- and work-related consequences of inhabiting a toxic environment.
