Book Description
Undoing environmental damage in parklands may seem good policy and practice for everyone concerned, but as these protected areas increase in complexity, it is increasingly difficult to target a problem with an appropriate solution. In this case story the problem seemed quite straight forward at first: a weedy field in need of environmental restoration. The stakeholders included: park managers who saw a property to be managed, Flyers who saw a Field for flying their model planes, an old man who saw a chance to help Nature along as if a Johnny Appleseed of the environment. But the heroine who saw none of this until she helped the old man, learned of flying from the Flyers, and faced a bureaucracy resisting change.
From the Author
All events actually took place except the "dream sequences" created from referenced readings. In some cases, events have been consolidated in order to make the story more readable. Characters are based upon actual people. They are not composites. Dialog is based upon three years of field work. Names and places, except for "dream sequence" locations, have been changed in order to protect confidences. There are 48 references, footnoted throughout the book.
