Tyrone Thomas : My Environmental Expose
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
"Urban ugliness has often been a topic of other writers but apparently not so wilderness ugliness..." Tyrone Thomas, one of Australia's most respected bushwalkers, redresses the balance with his latest and by far most controversial title to date. Written by one who truly knows the Australian landscape, Tyrone has observed first hand some of this destruction during his 40 years of bushwalking. His environmental expos tackles not only the physical disfigurement of the Australian environment over the last 100 years but also exposes the psychological mindset that has gone with it. He argues that white Australian settlement "essentially began a tragic scene of greed for land, power and wealth" which is being perpetuated even today. Economics, he argues, cannot be the sole concern for Australia and Australians; that 'traditional' pastimes such as outback farming, grazing, as well as fishing and hunting as sports, need to have checks in place in order to stop the associated rampant environmental degradation.
From the Publisher
The overriding message of this book, complemented by more of the bushwalks that have made Tyrone Thomas so notable, is that the Australian bush is certainly something to be enjoyed but more importantly it is also something that needs to be respected and protected: even if this means, as outlined in this book, upsetting the status quo.
