Crater Lake National Park: A Global Treasure

Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Crater Lake is one of Earth's most precious jewels, mounted in a setting of jagged peaks and reflecting the stillness of deep, clear waters. In CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK: A GLOBAL TREASURE, Ann and Myron Sutton have captured the beauty and majesty of this awesome place, with breathtaking images and richly descriptive text. Stunning color photographs, along with historical photographs, charts, and drawings, illustrate their fascinating exploration of the only national park in Oregon.

Journey with the Suttons down the rim and around the globe as they take you from the deep blue waters of Crater Lake to the mysteries of volcanic craters filled with murky waters, sulfurous cauldrons, or empty canyon walls. Read vivid stories of adventurers who risked a hazardous frozen surface and one intrepid explorer who sank to the bottom of this deepest lake in North America in a bubble submarine. Here, too, are early dramas of managing a park where 800 inches of snow can fall in a single year.

Published to coincide with the park's celebration of its first 100 years on May 22, 2002, CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK: A GLOBAL TREASURE is packed with information presented in an exciting, accessible style.

About the Author
Ann and Myron Sutton, once park rangers themselves, are authors of Yellowstone: A Century of the Wilderness Idea, and thirty other books. In this, their latest effort, they engagingly reveal the untold story of Crater Lake's legacy throughout the world. The pair has traveled extensively, capturing amazing images of volcanoes, lakes, and their surrounding flora and fauna. Their Park Service careers included aiding other countries as they struggled to create their own national parks. The Suttons reside in Southern Oregon, just seventy miles from the splendor of Crater Lake.
