Book Description
As Leaves of Grass", and "The Prophet", "Poetical Relationships" is a small book, however, which also traverses a broad range of ideas and experiences. It provides a short reading, in these busy times, which, however, also inspires boundless reflection and discovery. It makes a valuable, inexpensive addition to any personal library.
Increasingly there is renewed interest regarding relationships between science and religion as in discussions of the theory of evolution which at times are particularly contentious. This book helps to clarify issues by viewing nature, science and the cosmos in a novel, philosophical manner by means of impressionisms which lead to new insights.
Interest in seeking a possible theory of everything, or what had been called at times the ultimate truth, has been the subject of numerous recent writings. This book describes impressionisms realized by means of an unusual application of poetry to reveal aspects of the cosmos and reality not readily achieved by other kinds of descriptions.
Presented are unique reflections by an astute, and open-minded scientist on twenty subjects including evolution, aesthetics, quantum mechanics, and other intriguing topics using the prism of poetical phraseology to reveal novel perceptions. Philosophy had once been the domain of certain thinkers who often sought answers to metaphysical questions by making use of accurate observation, deduction, and the use of logic. Thus, a new avenue to formal knowledge had become developed, apart from revelation, which laid the basis for the scientific method. However, as science began to describe the world, it was realized that findings from science had major philosophical implications; thus the process has come full circle and increasingly more scientists are writing about the philosophical and metaphysical implications of science.
Much of early writing had been written in the form of narrative poetry which included those areas of philosophy which today are considered within the field of science. Poetic form is a uniquely suited format for expressing relationships and abstract ideas about nature, science, and philosophy since it is possible to combine diverse observations in very concise and comprehensive constructions to develop appreciation of concepts otherwise not readily perceived. It has the additional advantage in that philosophical themes can be described in much shorter readings than by narrative, but yet providing abundant substance for heuristic reflection. The writing flows naturally to form abstract ideas and novel conclusions about nature, the cosmos, and reality.
From being a specialist in science, the author transforms himself to become an observer, much as a passenger on a train, of nature, science, and the cosmos enabling him to develop new insights regarding original cause. He assembles the philosophical and metaphysical observations into a collection of literary impressions and abstractions.
About the Author
Fascinated by nature and science, the author went on to obtain a doctorate in physical science from Case Western Reserve University. Subsequent work in interdisciplinary research resulted in publications of numerous scientific articles in diverse journals. His development as a scientist crossed over into philosophy and metaphysics, and he began to wonder about, and analyze, the nature of reality and mysteries relating to cosmology, meaning, and primacy. Intrigued by new discoveries in science, the author set out on his own philosophical explorations based on his own experience and viewpoints to develop original insights.
